5 Things You Can Do to Utilise Your Time Better!

Updated: Sep 30, 2022

I've always been fond of time management and productivity, be it reaching a meeting on time or planning my day ahead in time so that I don't have to think of the next thing that needs to get done.

However, it's a lot easier talking about these things than to actually achieve them. A sudden occurrence of events, energy levels, a never-ending task list and several other factors play a key role in how much we actually get done versus how much we had planned on getting done.

That being said, my journey on understanding and utilising my time better as well as getting more meaningful work done has lead me to learn a thing or two. And, that is what this blog is about - tips that are actionable and that will help you gain more perspective on time and productivity in general.

Ready?! Let's dive right in.

1) Perspective - Time is money : All of us have the same number of hours in any given day. What's different is how we look at the time we have and how much we value it.

Start looking at time as if it were a limited resource, which once used, cannot and will not come back.

2) Perspective - Productivity & Multi-tasking : Productivity is not about getting more done. It's about getting less, but meaningful work done.

Start focusing on tackling one thing at a time, so that you can give that one thing your best.

3) Action: Start tracking where your time is going. Whether it be online or on pen & paper, what's important is to understand where you are spending your time before starting to allocate time to tasks or events.

4) Action: When writing your task list, make sure to mark one or at the most, two important items that you absolutely need to get done that day. And only when you are done with those tasks can you move to the other tasks on the list.

5) Action: Take frequent walk breaks in-between tasks. This might sound tedious and not very impactful, but trust me. I've been doing this for some time now and it really does help you stay focused and it keeps those burn-outs at bay.

While this list is by no means the end-all be-all to managing your time better and being more productive, I feel these are some of the major learnings in my life that have helped me make better use of my time and end up with a day that makes me feel happy and justified.

I hope you've managed to take something positive from this and that you can incorporate it into your own journey towards better productivity and time management.
